Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am from Hawaii, the island of Oahu. I grew up dancing the hula & was a professional hula dancer.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I wake up at 6:45 am to make breakfast for our youngest daughter Malia and get her ready for school. This is early for me as I am not a morning person. Malia has cerebral palsy so she requires a lot of my time & focus. I drop her off at school, then exercise by taking a long walk or riding my stationary bike.

I make myself available to my other two daughters who are twins and are still at home. One drives and one doesn’t so I can sometimes be found chauffeuring our daughter Kai around. During my downtime, I like to design, and play games on my phone. I find the designing time very therapeutic – it’s truly a great outlet for me and I don’t have to leave the house.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

My hobby really is designing on PosterMyWall. And I enjoy movies with buttered popcorn! I also enjoy cuddling in the evening with whoever is available in my family & I enjoy making time for friendships.

When did you join PosterMyWall?

I joined PosterMyWall in September of 2017.

What brought you to graphic designing?

I decided to become a designer after my friend Amabel encouraged me to design for PosterMyWall, as she felt that I had some designing talent. Thanks, Amabel!

Tell us about your first designing experience.

My first design was what I call “God-Art.” I had taken a photo of the sun shining through trees on a mountainous road & I thought it was one of the most beautiful nature photos I had ever taken and I wanted to share it! So I just put a caption on the photo & shared it on PosterMyWall. Eventually I saw that people were looking at it and some were buying it! That was my entry into designing.

I’m not very computer savvy but from that picture, I decided to teach myself how to navigate the PosterMyWall site with all the tools it has to offer. I did some quick reading on colors & emotions and what works well and what doesn’t. As people started purchasing my designs, it gave me more confidence to continue.

So although I have never been trained in graphic arts/design – I am happy with where this is going. There’s been this creative side in me that has been longing to come out and I just needed a vehicle for it. That is what PosterMyWall is for me.

Who’s your favorite PosterMyWall designer?

I can’t say I have a favorite PosterMyWall designer because there’s so many designs out there that I like from many of the artists. But in the beginning, I did get inspiration from Renee Walls, Amna Ali and Keilanismom – so shout out to them.

What’s your design style?

I prefer artsy, abstract, sometimes monochromatic designs.

Do you have any tips for aspiring designers?

The only tip I can give is probably very cliche, but just design based on what interests you & visually appeals to you. It has to be your authentic style.

Donna has made some incredible designs during her time as a PosterMyWall designer. Below are just some of them. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. You can check out her other designs on her PosterMyWall profile.
